Edward William Chapman was a student at Eton from 1855 to 1860 and was a great sportsman, being in the Oppidan Wall, Mixed Wall and Field XIs, Keeper of the Wall in 1860 and first Commandant of the Corps. He won the Double Sculling in 1858, rowed in Victory in the 1850 Procession, got his Upper Boat Choices ( colours) in 1859 and captained Thetis in 1860 in the 1860 Procession.No doubt these ribbons and badges were taken from these events.
