Signed on the obverse Milton Sc. Ad. Vivum- Stainton notes that this is the only example of Milton taking a likeness himself, the two being friends. Tyssen was a numismatist whose large collection was sold in London in 1802. Milton was a modest buyer at the sale.
The example of this medal in the British Museum collection was given by Dorothea Banks, wife of Joseph Banks who was second cousin of Tyssen.
