Battle of La Hogue, silver gilt medal, 1692, by G. Hautsch, bust of William 111 on a plinth with shields of England and Holland, all within a temple at the rear statues of Russel, Ashby, Delaval and Allemonde, below them are four smaller busts with fleur de lis in front, MEMORIAE ETERNAE, ( TO THE ETERNAL MEMORY), rev. Fame and Victory with wreath and naval trophy support a tablet on which is being inscribed the ships lost by France in the battle, (THE GRATITUDE OF THE WORLD FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF THE FRENCH FLEET BY THE ENGLISH AND DUTCH 31 MAY 1692, LE SOLEIL ROYAL, ETC, 45 mm, (MI. 67/272). Minor marks, otherwise about extremely fine and rare, especially in this metal. £Sold
The four allied commanders named are Russell commander in chief of the English, Almonde, commander in chief of the Dutch, Deleval, who commanded the Red squadron which burnt Le Soleil Royal and Ashby who commanded the blue squadron. The four smaller busts are most probably the French commanders.
