Sir Francis Burdett, ( 1770 - 1844), radical politician.MP. for Boroughbridge 1796, MP. for Westminster 1807 to 1837. Imprisoned in the Tower of London on political charges in 1810 and again in 1820. After the Reform Bill he became far more conservative and became the M.P. for North Wlltshire in 1837, which he retained until his death.
