Having been at Windsor and Buckingham Palace on 19th April, the Emperor and Empress were received at the Guildhall. Napoleon 111 gave a speech in which he re-affirmed his "energetic co-operation in the prosecution of the war, should we fail in obtaining an honourable peace." The royal party was entertained to lunch in the Council Chamber.
