Frederick Robinson, Viscount Goderich
Frederick Robinson, Viscount Goderich,( 1782- 1859).Politician and Prime Minister. As a Tory, early in his career he was allied to Castlereagh. When Castlereagh joined Lord Liverpool's administration he became Vice-President of the Board of trade. However, it was at the Board of Trade in 1815 that he against his natural inclinations introduced the Corn-laws, which led to attacks on his own home. Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1823, the financial crisis of the mid-1820s weakened his credentials as Chancellor and he resigned in December 1826..By now aligned with Canning on who's death George IV turned to Robinson, now Viscount Goderich to form a coalition government of moderates.
However he never truly had the support of George or a solid base and he soon found himself pushed to one side, thus leaving over with the nickname "the blubberer."
Goderich suffers from the unenviable distinction of being the only Prime Minister never to face parliament while in office.
