The Sporting Magazine for July 1827 states that "A grand match has been made between all England against the county of Sussex for one thousand guineas. The Sussex eleven are .......It is to be played at three starts, the first at Darnall near Sheffield on the 4th June, the second at Lord's Cricket Ground on 18th June and the third at Brighton..."
