London Bridge
The first London Bridge was constructed during the Roman ocupation, whilst the bridge that existed in the 12th century was burned down in 1136. The first stone bridge was begun in 1176 by Peter Chaplain of St. Mary Colechurch and the first mention of houses on it was in 1201. In the centre was a chapel dedicated to Thomas a Becket. Between 1823 - 1831 a new bridge was built by John Rennie and it was at this time that relics from the 1176 construction were turned into momentoes. This new bridge was opened by William IV in 1831 and a medal issued by the Corporation of the City of London records this event(listed later on the website).
