George IV , Visit to Scotland, silver medal, 1822, by W. Slightly rubbed on the high points, otherwise good very fine and rare, especially in silver. £Sold
The monument was to be a copy of the Parthenon, to be erected on Carlton Hill.
However at a proposed cost of £42,000, contributions failed to materialise and gradually the plans withered to just a basic form. The intention had been to remember the Scottish dead from the Napoleonic Wars.
