Queen Victoria Visit to Ireland
The Queen, Prince Albert and the four older children left Cowes on the Royal Yacht and landed at Cove Harbour, Cork, the following day. The Queen gave her permission for the name Cove to be changed to Queenstown, she being the first monarch to visit Cork. Following this, the royal party re-embarked for their passage to Dublin which was extremely rough. In the city, the Queen drove around without escort. A military review was held in Phoneix Park and a reception attended by 1700 people was held that evening at Dublin Castle. From here the royal arty embarked at Kingstown on route for Scotland.
