David Garrick, bronze gilt laudatory medal, 1772, by L. Pingo, draped bust of David Garrick bare head right, DAVID GARRICK, rev. three muses standing, HE UNITED ALL YOUR POWERS/ MDCCLXXII, 41 mm (BHM 160). Slightly rubbed on the high points, otherwise extremely fine and rare in this metal. £Sold
David Garrick (1717-1779), actor/manager. He first appeared on stage in Ipswich in 1741 and from there continued to enhance his reputation, especially in such roles as Richard III and Hamlet. In 1747 he took a half share in Drury Lane which he held until his death. 1772 saw the height of his popularity.
