HMS Bellerophon, Oak Table
David Cordingly in his book "Billy Ruffian- The Bellerophon and the Downfall of Napoleon," gives a good background. Having by the end of her career beome a convict hulk the Bellerophon was sold on 21st January 1836 for £4030. In September a notice was placed in the "Plymouth Devonport and Stonehouse News" to say that on the 29th the ship would be broken up and auctioned by Mr. Chapple.
Living in Plymouth at the time was George Bellamy who had been the surgeon on the Bellerophon at the time of the Battle of the Nile. He had had a long and distinguished career in the navy and had become a member of the Royal College of Physicians.
He had served under several famous admirals, for a year been physician to the Duke of Clarence,( later William IV)on the Royal Yatch Mary and subsequently become mayor of Plymouth.
"On learning of the sale of his old ship he bought some of the timbers and incorporated them into a charming cottage in the Victorian Gothic style which he was in the process of building near the waterfront in Plymstock."
