The History of the Bromsgrove Guild by Quintin Watt gives a good background to this item.
In 1909 Joan of Arc was beatified by Pope Pius X. This plaque shows her riding into Rheims. The design was probably influenced by a postcard that Walter Gilbert had received from Paris in 1904 which depicted Emmanuel Fremiet's statue of Joan. Louis Weingartner designed and modelled these medals in wax and it is unusual that this example does not show a view of the newly built Westminster Cathedral on the reverse.
