Queen Victoria’s Visit to Ireland
The Queen was greeted by enthusiastic crowds on her arrival and at a reception at Phoenix Park she met 52,000 children who had come from all parts of Ireland. ‘The Annual Register’ commented “ The visit was marred by no untoward incidents and its successful conclusion only raised the question as to who had been responsible for keeping the Queen apart from her Irish subjects for so many years”.
