William Alexander, a leading Dublin Merchant who lived at 15 Sackville Place. In 1788 he was elected Lord Mayor of Dublin and was afterwards appointed a Superintendent Magistrate. It was in this capacity that he ordered the arrests of the brothers Henry and John Sheares, the notable barristers and United Irishman, who were condemned for complicity in the 1798 Rebellion and were subsequently executed outside Newgate Prison.
