Restoration of Windsor Castle, Oak Snuff Box
In 1823 George IV resolved to take up residence at Windsor. As Windsor had seen little modernisation since the reign of Charles II, the government decided to give £150,000 towards the restoration of the Castle. In fact, the improvements were not finished until 1840 and by that time had cost in excess of £1,000,000.
