Indian and Colonial Reception at the Guildhall
Brown states that the Court of Common Council passed the following resolution- "that in view of the approaching visit of our Colonial and Indian brethren to this country, it is expedient that this Corporation do recognise the occasion, and that a special Ward committee be appointed to consider and report as to the best manner of doing this, thereby cementing the bond the bond of union between this country and her Colonies and her Indian Empire".
As a result a service was held at St. Paul's and a reception and ball held at the Guildhall.
There were 4500 guests.
The Colonial and Indian Exhibition was held at South Kensington in 1886 in a series of purpose built buildings in the indian style. Opened by Queen Victoria, it was visited by more than five million people,
