Thomas Pelham Holles, (1693 - 1768), commonly known as the Duke of Newcastle, Whig politician and Prime Minister. A protege of Walpole's serving under him for many years, mainly as Secretary of State and dominating foreign policy. One of his acts as Prime Minister was to precipitate the Seven Years War. After his second term, he briefly served in Rockingham's administration.
The collection label refers to Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire which was the seat of the Pelham-Clintons, Dukes of Newcastle.
