Death of Sir Ralph Abercrombie
Sir Ralph Abercrombie, (1734 - 1801). General.The campaign of 1799 was fought against the pro Revolutionary forces in Holland of the Batavian Republic. The campaign led by the Duke of York was a disaster although Abercrombie came out of it well and was subsequently sent to Egypt to face Napoleon's forces near Alexandria, it was the scene of his greatest success and but ultimately his death from wounds incurred at the battle.
