Matthew Wood, Lord Mayor of London,
Sir Matthew Wood, (1768-1843). Politician and reformer.
This medal was struck at Sir Edward Thomason's expense as a mark of respect for the exertions which Matthew Wood made to save the lives of three Irishmen who were due to be hanged.
Wood was one of Princess Caroline's chief supporters in her battle with George 1V, as Prince of Wales,
and especially when she returned to England in 1820 following George's accession and leading up to the divorce trial.
