George Frederick William Charles, Duke of Cambridge,(1818-1904). The only son of George 111's seventh son, Adolphus Frederick. Joining the army, he fought at Alma and Inkerman and was promoted to major general in 1854. He married an actress, Miss Farebrother.
The opening of the park was attended by 100,000 people, the grounds being given by Lord Calthorpe.
