Surrey, Addlestone,Wooburn Farm,(Woburn),The Seat of Lord Petre,
The farm was bought by Philip Southcote in 1735 and under his guidance, the estate was designed to form an Arcadian fantasy combining farming and gardening. William Kent designed the lodge and other features. Alexander Pope was a friend of the family. Wooburn Farm was very influential in disseminating ideas of the landscape garden, attracting the attention of Horace Walpole, who implied that Capability Brown had plagiarized Southcote's ideas. Southcote was a friend of leading writers and gardeners of his day.
The estate passed to Lord Petre around 1783.
