Charles Pratt, Lord Camden, (1714-1794).Attorney General 1757. Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas. Lord chancellor 1766-70. During the trial of John Wilkes for sedition he declared common warrants illegal and as a result achieved much popularity. He was one of the leading figures to oppose the measures that led to the War of Independence.
Lord Brougham said of him- His unwearied patience, his unbroken suavity of manner, his unruffled calmness of temper.... went far to constitute the perfect judge.
