Pendock Neale, (1728-72) of Tollerton south of the City,older brother of Revd. John Neale (1729-81), rector of Tollerton, 1755-70. Passes for the racecourse were issued for both men.
Racing at Nottingham, on the Forest ground, a mile north of the city, in actuality the most southern part of Sherwood Forest, was well-established early in the reign of George III. Race meetings continued to be staged there until the present-day course was opened at Colwick in 1892.
