Sir Henry Hardinge and the Treaty of Lahore
Sir Henry Hardinge, first Viscount Hardinge of Lahore, (1785- 1856), field-marshal. Appointed commander in chief on the death of Wellington.
The Art-Union Journal of 1846 p. 153, the column headed "Chit chat from Rome,"has the item,"Mr.G.G.Adams, late of Her Majesty's Mint, is studying here as a sculptor.He has just finished the dies for a medal of Sir Henry Hardinge who gave him the last sitting on the day he left London for India(1844). As a work of Art it bears comparison with the best of the Napoleon series. He intends returning to England in May to publish it."
The Victoria and Albert Museum has the original wax produced by Adams for the reverse design. The entry states,
"The roundel was among the items given to the Museum by I. D. Adams, the daughter of George Gammon Adams, in 1980".
