This was the first Gothic Revival building in the centre of Birmingham. The architect was Charles Barry. He hired a young A.W.N.Pugin to help with the detailing of furniture, ceiling decoration, bosses pendants etc.
Taylor says that it was this collaboration and the development of Birmingham themes which flowered into Barry's competition winning design for the Houses of Parliament at the end of the same year.
Barry's building was demolished after the school moved to Edgbaston in 1936.
