Izaak Walton, biographer and author, is widely considered the father of angling.
Charles Cotton, (1630-1687), poet and translator. He published burlesques of Virgil and Lucian and is the reputed author of The Complete Gamester, published in 1674.
An edition of "The Compleat Angler" was published by Gosden in 1824, it is probable this is the reason for the issue of this medal in 1824.
Thomas Gosden was a bookseller, specialising in angling, based at 107, St. Martin's Lane.
