Southsea, St. Paul's School, Instituted 1825, silver prize, 1829, ST. PAUL'S SCHOOL, SOUTHSEA, INSTITUTED 1825, rev. an open wreath, Greek Verse/ C. R. Tate 1829, 51 mm. (J. T. 89/86a). A handsome architectural medal, about extremely fine and rare. £Sold
Taylor notes that Southsea's first church, gothic in style had been designed by Francis Goodwin,(1820-22). St.Paul's School was founded in 1825 by a society of one hundred persons taking subscriptions of £25 each.The architect was Jacob Owen, who two years later built All Saint's, Mile End, Portsea.The school subsequently became a Baptist Chapel and has since been demolished.
