George II, Royal Family Medal, silver medal, 1732, by J. Croker & J. Tanner, facing busts of George II and Queen Caroline; he wears armour and mantle while she has her hair bound with pearls, rev. busts of the seven royal children, with the Prince of Wales in the centre, FELICITAS IMPERII (THE HAPINESS OF THE KINGDOM), in exergue the names of the children, 69 mm (MI 500/47; Woolf 44/1)). Rubbed on the high points, with some marks in the fields, otherwise good very fine and rare. £Sold
This medal is George’s response to the one issued by the Old Pretender, depicting his two sons. Twice the size of the Jacobite example, it was a clear rejoinder in the medallic war.
