George III Preserved from Assassination,
On 15th May the Royal family visited Drury Lane. As the King entered his box and was bowing to the audience a Mr James Hadfield, a discharged soldier, stood up and fired a horse pistol at the Royal box. At the subsequent trial he was found not guilty, considered to be insane at the time of the attempt. He was sent to Bethlem Hospital where he died in 1841.
